Waxing Questions

How long does my hair need to be for waxing?

We recommend at least ¼ inch of hair growth — about the length of a grain of rice — for the best results.

Does waxing hurt?

Sensitivity varies by person, but we use gentle techniques and post-wax care to minimize discomfort.

What should I do before my waxing appointment?

Avoid heavy exfoliation, tanning, or using retinol 48 hours before your appointment. Come in with clean, dry skin, and avoid caffeine the day of if you're prone to sensitivity.

What medications are important to disclose before waxing?

It's essential to let us know if you're using any medications that may affect your skin's sensitivity or healing response. These include:

  • Topical retinoids (like Retin-A, Tretinoin, Differin)
  • Oral acne medications (like Accutane / Isotretinoin)
  • Prescription exfoliants or peels
  • Blood thinners
  • Steroids or immunosuppressants
  • Antibiotics (oral or topical, as they can increase sensitivity)
Can I get a Brazilian wax on my period?

Yes, just wear a clean tampon or menstrual cup and be aware that sensitivity may be heightened.

What should I do after a wax?

Avoid heat, sweating, exfoliation, and tight clothing for 24–48 hours. We'll provide specific aftercare instructions at your visit.

Is waxing safe during pregnancy?

Yes, with a few precautions. Let us know you're pregnant so we can adjust the experience to be as comfortable as possible.

Skincare & Facial Treatments

What kind of facials do you offer?

From calming treatments for sensitive skin to more active options like chemical peels and microneedling, we tailor each facial to your skin's unique needs and goals. We work with two complementary professional skincare lines, giving us a wide and intentional range of ingredients to draw from. This allows us to create a customized experience that feeds the skin exactly what it needs — whether it's nourishment, repair, clarity, or renewal. Every facial is designed to support your skin's natural function while guiding it toward vibrant, lasting results.

What is the benefit of a facial and why should I get one?

Facials are more than a luxury — they're a powerful way to care for your skin and your nervous system. Professionally performed facials support:

  • Deep cleansing and exfoliation to remove buildup and encourage cellular turnover
  • Improved hydration and barrier function for balanced, resilient skin
  • Targeted treatments for concerns like acne, dullness, sensitivity, or signs of aging
  • Circulation and lymphatic flow, which promote healing and a natural glow
  • Relaxation and stress reduction, allowing your skin and body to soften into restoration
Can I get a facial if I have acne or sensitive skin?

Absolutely. We specialize in working with all skin types and conditions using gentle, effective products and customized protocols.

How often should I get a facial?

Every 4–6 weeks is ideal for maintaining healthy, radiant skin, but we'll help create a routine that fits your goals and budget.

Microneedling

What is microneedling and how does it work?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. It helps reduce fine lines, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and overall texture.

Is microneedling safe?

Yes, when performed by a licensed professional, microneedling is very safe. At Petals & Pine, we follow strict protocols and use professional-grade devices in a clean, controlled environment.

Does microneedling hurt?

You may feel a light prickling sensation, but we apply a topical numbing cream beforehand to ensure you're comfortable throughout the session.

What should I expect after a microneedling treatment?

You may experience redness (similar to a mild sunburn), slight swelling, or tightness for 24–72 hours. Peeling or dryness may occur in the days following. We provide personalized aftercare instructions to support your skin's healing.

How many microneedling sessions do I need?

For best results, a series of 3–6 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typically recommended. This depends on your skin goals — whether targeting acne scars, texture, or fine lines.

Can I wear makeup after a chemical peel or microneedling?

It's best to wait 24–48 hours (or until your skin barrier feels calm again) before applying makeup. Clean, breathable skin is key for healing.

Chemical Peels

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a skincare treatment that uses acids to exfoliate the outer layers of skin. It reveals brighter, smoother skin and can help with acne, dark spots, sun damage, and fine lines.

Are chemical peels safe for sensitive skin?

Yes. We offer various peel strengths, including gentle enzyme and lactic acid peels that are safe for sensitive skin. We always assess your skin before treatment and tailor the peel to your needs.

What will my skin look like after a chemical peel?

Depending on the strength of the peel, you may experience light flaking, peeling, or redness for a few days. In some cases, areas of hyperpigmentation may temporarily appear darker before they begin to fade — this is part of your skin's natural purging and healing process. We'll guide you through personalized aftercare to support renewal, minimize irritation, and help your skin reveal a brighter, more even-toned complexion over time.

Should I see an esthetician or dermatologist for these treatments?

Estheticians are licensed to safely perform cosmetic microneedling (up to 0.3 mm in Colorado) and light to medium chemical peels. If you have deep scarring or are looking for medical-grade results (like TCA peels or deeper microneedling), we may refer you to a trusted dermatologist.

Can I combine microneedling and chemical peels?

Yes. These treatments work beautifully together — but they must be done in separate sessions to allow your skin time to fully heal. Alternating between microneedling and chemical peels can transform your skin over time, improving fine lines, hyperpigmentation, melasma, texture, and overall glow.

Not Sure Where To Start?

A skin consultation is free, and there is no wrong question. If you would rather talk it through first, call or text and we will find the right treatment together.
